Tinh Van Poetry Calendar 2012 – The Convergence of Poetry and Painting

It has become a tradition that, at the end of each year, despite being busy striving to meet sales targets, Tinh Van people still take time to prepare the new year calendar. The 2011 Tinh Van Calendar with the theme "Basic Lemma" was considered quite impressive, which also created psychological pressure for conceptualizing the 2012 Calendar. Ultimately, the Poetry Calendar was chosen.
The Tinh Van Poetry Calendar 2012 is a unique calendar based on the convergence of two aesthetic emotions: Poetry and Painting. More interestingly, the Poetry here is Machine Poetry, and the Painting here is purely original instinctive emotions evoked by reading the Machine Poems, transmitted through the electronic brush of painter Thanh Phong – author of "The Festering Head Assassin". With such content style, the calendar inherently carries a strong postmodern imprint.
Machine Poetry (http://lamtho.vn) is an entertainment product characteristic of Tinh Van Culture, allowing the composition, at a speed of 1500 poems per second, of purely Vietnamese poems in all genres from traditional (luc bat, seven-word, five-word...) to innovative (haiku, staircase, nonsense...), following nearly 40 styles and themes from classical poems like The Tale of Kieu, Chinh Phu Ngam to modern ones by Le Dat, Bui Giang, from the romantic Xuan Dieu to the philosophical Trinh Cong Son, from Japan's Basho to India's Tagore... The poems in the Tinh Van Poetry Calendar 2012 were spontaneously composed by Machine Poetry, without any editing or revision.
Painter Thanh Phong was born on October 21, 1986, graduated from Hanoi University of Fine Arts, and is a member of the quite famous comic drawing group Phong Duong in the Vietnamese comic scene. Phong has participated in many exhibitions, including Espai Cromatic (Spain) and the Bucheon International Comics Festival (South Korea). In 2010, his work "Bicof Story" was selected for publication in a comic anthology of young Southeast Asian artists. In 2011, his work "The Man Who Turned into a Tiger" won a special award at the Asian Youth Comics and Animation Festival. Notably, in October 2011, "The Festering Head Assassin" illustrating Phong's "teen idioms" caused a public sensation and consumed a lot of ink and paper in the press.
